Chester has been welcoming visitors since the Romans came here 2000 years ago and it's easy to see why it's so popular with visitors today.

Chester Rows Tour

This 2 hour tour gives visitors a much closer look at the City's unique treasures than ever before and will take them in and out of shops that form part of The Rows.

The tours led by experienced City Guides leave the Town Hall Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at 2pm on Wednesdays and Fridays from May until the end of October. Tickets are £5 (£4 concessions) and can be booked at the TIC or Chester Visitor Centre.

The Rows are two-tier shopping galleries dating from the Middle Ages that give the City its distinctive and unrivalled image -and give everyone a grandstand view of the Chester's many parades and processions that take place throughout the year.

Visitors can also find out more about Bishop Lloyd's Palace and its US connections and the amazing story behind God's Providence House - the only building in the City whose residents escaped the plague.

Exclusive Roman Tours

This Exclusive tour is for groups of no more than six people escorted by your own personal Roman Legionary gaining access various parts of the Roman fortress that remain beneath buildings in the city centre. Though access to all areas is not guaranteed due to commercial interest of some shops. There is the opportunity for exclusive groups to access more areas than larger groups. This also includes a visit to the reconstructed Cvbicvlvm or centurions living room where you will see many replica artifacts. You can also nominate a group member to be kitted out in 2nd century armour!

Ghosthunter Trail

Take a night time journey around the eerie haunts of Chester's mysterious and murky past. Hear spine-chilling tales of ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night. Revisit scenes of phantom phenomena, spine-chilling happenings and macabre, sinister and supernatural events with a ghosthunter guide.

History Hunter

Guided walking tour condensing 2000 years of the City's dramatic history into 1.5 hrs. (Longer or shorter tours available).

Picking up from the Chester Visitor Centre (or a designated meeting place of your choice) the tour includes all the main highlights you would expect to see in this historic city including the unique two-tiered shopping galleries.

Tours are available in a number of languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Romanian, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese and Welsh.

SECRET CHESTER - Unlocking the City's Hidden Heritage

This popular 2 hour guided walk which was launched in 2003 will give visitors a rare glimpse inside Bonewaldesthorne's Tower and the Water Tower on the City Walls, as well as the Agricola Tower at Chester Castle. The Water Tower is a reminder of the days when Chester was the North West's largest port during the Middle Ages and was built to guard entry to the city's harbour. Bonewaldesthorne's Tower hides a dark secret - a rare working camera obscura, - a type of Victorian periscope that rotates and projects live panoramic images of the outside world onto a white table in a darkened room
